Our Physicians

Peter Wong, MD, FACP, FACG

Dr. Peter Wong is a diplomat with the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in gastroenterology as well as a fellow in the American College of Physicians and American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Wong is proficient in the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of colonoscopy, upper GI Endoscopy (EGD), endoscopic band ligation, esophageal dilation, and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). His special interests are gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility disorders and liver diseases. He has served as Endoscopy Committee Chief at Mary Washington Hospital. He was recognized as one of the region's top gastroenterologists by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2016 and 2020.

Education and Experience

Chetan Pai, DO

Dr. Chet Pai is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is the only one in the surrounding area that has had additional training (certified) to perform EUS. His areas of interest include therapeutic endoscopy (ERCP, EUS guided FNA, luminal stenting, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)), colon screening, GERD, liver disease, and diseases of the bile ducts and pancreas. He has consistently been recognized as one of the region's top gastroenterologists by Northern Virginia Magazine every year since 2012.

Dong Lee, MD

Dr. Dong Lee is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in gastroenterology. Dr. Lee is proficient in the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, and high-resolution manometry. Dr. Lee is recognized as one of the region's top gastroenterologists by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 , 2018 and 2020.

Narayan Dharel, MD, Ph.D

Dr. Narayan Dharel is triple board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology. Dr. Dharel is proficient in the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including EGD; esophageal dilation; screening, surveillance, and diagnostic colonoscopy; hemorrhoid banding; luminal stenting; video capsule endoscopy and Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of Barrett's. His areas of interest include colon cancer screening and prevention, GERD, Barrett's, Fatty Liver/NASH and other liver diseases. Dr. Dharel has been recognized as one of the region's top gastroenterologists by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2020.

Akash Ajmera, MD

Dr. Akash Ajmera is board certified in Internal medicine and gastroenterology. In addition to performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, Dr. Ajmera is skilled in performing multiple advanced therapeutic interventions including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic luminal stenting and radiofrequency ablation (RFA). These advanced therapies enable Dr. Ajmera to provide leading-edge treatment of conditions such as early stage GI cancer, stricture or compression of the GI tract and Barrett's esophagus.

Amandeep Kalra, MD

Dr. Amandeep S. Kalra is a gastroenterologist in Fredericksburg, VA and is affiliated with Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive disorders, such as stomach pain, ulcers, reflux, constipation, and Crohn's disease.

Lisanne Anders, MD

Dr. Lisanne Anders obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where she was selected for a bilateral exchange program with the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Dr. Anders completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Throughout her training Dr. Anders received multiple awards for her research, including the Emerging Liver Scholar Research Award and the Resident Research Award. She also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the University of Louisville’s Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Dr. Anders is proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including Upper GI Endoscopy (EGD), esophageal dilation; screening, surveillance and diagnostic colonoscopy, and video capsule endoscopy.

Rupa Shah, MD

Dr. Shah is board-certified gastroenterologist who has been in practice since 2005. Her areas of interest include general gastroenterology, colon cancer screening/prevention, and inflammatory bowel disease. She is proficient at diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including upper GI endoscopy (EGD), esophageal dilation, endoscopic band ligation, colonoscopy, hemorrhoid banding, and video capsule endoscopy. Dr. Shah believes that patient education and involvement is a key factor in the healing process, and helps her patients become well informed about their digestive health. Dr. Shah was honored as one of Arlington magazine‘s top docs in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She also received recognition by Northern Virginia Magazine for top docs in 2019.
