Cancer patients will soon have skilled radiation therapy available in the
Northern Neck. Mary Washington Healthcare is bringing experienced and
compassionate care to the region with the opening of the Regional Cancer
Center at Montross. Patients will have access to the most modern therapies,
and some treatment sessions can be completed in as little as 15 minutes.
Best of all, effective high-quality care will be close to home.
The facility will offer leading-edge technology and clinical expertise,
like the Regional Cancer Center locations in Fredericksburg and Stafford
County. It will be equipped with a Varian 2100 iX linear accelerator.
This device has on-board imaging (OBI) and performs cone beam CT (CBCT)
using a 120 multileaf collimator. Treatments include external beam radiation
therapy with CT imaging using 3-D Conformal, IMRT, IGRT, and electron therapy.
The MWHC Regional Cancer Center at Montross will be staffed by a full on-site
radiation care team, including a radiation oncologist, radiation therapist,
physicist, and nurse. All members of the Montross care team will be board-certified
within their specialties. Additional support staff will be available as
Cancer Navigators and a nutrition counselor.
Initially, the center will be open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m.
– Noon. Hours will be expanded as the need for services grows. As
an extension of the MWHC Regional Cancer Center, which is accredited by
the Commission on Cancer, patients of the Regional Cancer Center at Montross
will have access to a full range of care, including diagnostics, surgery,
radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and support services.
