Mary Washington Healthcare Introduces Advanced Technology to Enhance Breast Cancer Surgery

Pintuition® and XPERT® 40 help improve precision, convenience and the patient experience

Fredericksburg, Va. (September 23, 2026) — Mary Washington Healthcare is advancing breast cancer care with the addition of the Pintuition® Breast Cancer Guidance System and XPERT® 40 Localization System, two innovative technologies designed to improve precision, streamline surgical processes and create a more convenient experience for patients during lumpectomy procedures.

Pintuition is a navigation system that helps surgeons pinpoint breast tumors during surgery. By guiding surgeons directly to the targeted area, it improves precision, helps preserve healthy tissue and potentially reduce the need for additional procedures.

Traditionally, many patients undergoing a lumpectomy require a separate pre-surgical appointment to have a wire placed in the breast on the day of surgery. Pintuition eliminates that process by allowing a small marker to be placed days or even weeks before surgery, reducing stress and improving convenience for patients.

While Pintuition supports more precise navigation before and during surgery, XPERT 40 adds another layer of support once the targeted tissue has been removed. XPERT 40 provides immediate imaging of tissue removed during breast surgery, allowing physicians to confirm they have removed the targeted area before the procedure is complete. This can improve efficiency, reduce delays and help patients avoid the inconvenience of additional procedures.
