Mary Washington Hospital Receives 2015 Healthgrades® Patient Safety
Mary Washington Hospital’s patient outcomes were surveyed by Healthgrades®,
the nation’s leading online resource for comprehensive information
about physicians and hospitals, used by more than one million people each
day to select healthcare providers.
Healthgrades evaluated 14 types of serious and preventable events, such
as infections and post-surgical complications, which may occur during
a patient’s hospital stay. These patient safety indicators (PSIs)
are provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and were
measured against the most recent data available that was submitted to
the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) database, which comprised
fiscal years 2011-2013.
Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) was one of 467 hospitals in the U.S. to
receive the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™, which
places us within the top 10 percent of all hospitals evaluated.
To qualify, MWH had to meet stringent clinical quality thresholds, which
included zero occurrences in one key PSI, Foreign Object Left During Surgery
or Procedure. A hospital reporting just a single incident in this category
becomes ineligible for consideration.
In addition, MWH had to provide data to MedPAR on at least seven out of
eight core PSIs and rank within the top 80 percent of hospitals evaluated
for clinical quality.
Earning this significant distinction highlights the dedication to patient
safety that every healthcare professional at Mary Washington Hospital
displays every day.
