Humana Medicare Advantage Contract Negotiations
Mary Washington Healthcare is in negotiations with Humana regarding our
Medicare Advantage participation across our facilities and clinics.
Your care remains our top priority, and we will continue providing high-quality
care to the patients and communities we serve. We value our relationship
with you and will continue to update you as negotiations continue.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- If an agreement is not reached, Humana Medicare Advantage will be out of
network with Mary Washington Healthcare beginning Sept. 1, 2026.
- Your coverage for medical emergencies is protected by law and will be covered
at in-network rates, regardless of network status.
- If Mary Washington Healthcare and Humana Medicare Advantage are not able
to come to an agreement, you may face higher out-of-pocket costs or your
plan may deny coverage entirely for out-of-network services.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- Call the customer service number on your Humana Medicare Advantage insurance
card to ask about your specific out-of-network benefits, coverage rules,
or appeal processes for continuing current treatment.
- You have the right to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or
return to original Medicare during Open Enrollment, October 15 through
December 7.
- Contact 1-800-MEDICARE for guidance on finding other coverage options in
your area.

Q: Why is Mary Washington Healthcare in negotiations with Humana Medicare
Advantage?
A: The September 1, 2026, expiration date was built into our previous agreement
with Humana Medicare Advantage, and we have been working with them to
renew the contract before it expires.
Q: Which insurance plans are affected by this negotiation?
A: Humana Medicare Advantage plans only. This does not apply to other Humana
products, like Humana Medicaid.
Q: What Mary Washington Healthcare facilities are affected by this negotiation?
A: All Mary Washington Healthcare entities and employed physicians.
Q: Will emergency care still be covered in network?
A: Yes. Your coverage for medical emergencies is protected by law and will
be covered in network, regardless of network status.
Q: Will my out-of-pocket costs increase if Mary Washington Healthcare’s
contract with Humana expires?
A: If a new Medicare Advantage contract with Humana is not reached by September
1, 2026, our health system will be considered out-of-network for your
plan. If that happens, you should contact Humana Medicare Advantage to
discuss your coverage and costs.
