Mary Washington Health Alliance Participating in National Initiative to
Prevent Heart Attacks and Strokes
Mary Washington Health Alliance is one of 516 healthcare organizations
in the nation chosen to participate in a new initiative to help reduce
the risk of heart attacks and stroke among Medicare recipients.
Health care practitioners participating in the “Million Hearts®
Cardiovascular Disease Risk Reduction Model” will use a data-driven
predictive model to generate personalized risk scores for patients. They
will then work with patients to identify the best approach to reducing
their risk of having a heart attack or stroke – for example, smoking
cessation interventions, blood pressure management, or cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Mary Washington Health Alliance expects to work with up to 30,000 Medicare
recipients during this five-year project. Million Hearts® is co-led
by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Centers for
Disease Control with the goal of preventing one million heart attacks
