AccuBoost® Offers a Safer Way to Minimize Cancer Recurrence
The Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center has taken breast
cancer treatment to the next level with AccuBoost®. It’s a safe,
accurate, non-invasive image-guided breast irradiation system that decreases
the chance of cancer recurrence in women diagnosed with early-stage breast
cancer who choose breast conservation therapy.
Following a surgical procedure to remove the tumor, followed by standard
radiation, traditional breast conservation protocols require an additional
“boost” dose of radiation to the tissues surrounding the former
site of the tumor to inhibit cancer recurrence.
During a procedure similar to getting a 3D mammogram, AccuBoost employs
mammography’s real-time digital imaging technology to precisely
target and deliver that last important boost dose of radiation from four
angles while simultaneously limiting healthy tissue’s unintentional exposure.
AccuBoost provides an extra layer of safety in breast cancer treatment
and serves as another example of how the Regional Cancer Center always
strives to go the extra mile. We stand among only a few cancer centers
nationwide, including Cancer Treatment Centers of America, to provide
our patients the option of breast-conserving AccuBoost therapy.
