Mary Washington Healthcare Administers 50,000th Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine to Local Teacher

Fredericksburg, VA (February 25, 2021) – Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) is proud to announce it administered its 50,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today to Cenia Bonilla, a Stafford County Public School teacher.

The staff and volunteers at the vaccine clinic, located in the John F. Fick, III Conference Center, clapped and cheered as Ms. Bonilla made her way through the stations to receive her final dose of the vaccine. When she arrived in the vaccination room, Dr. Mike McDermott, MWHC CEO, administered the dose to Ms. Bonilla.

Dr. McDermott acknowledges the significance of this occasion. “When we started delivering vaccines just a few months ago, who could imagine that we would deliver over 50,000 vaccine doses in such a short period of time? I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for our team here at Mary Washington Healthcare who have made it possible for us to vaccinate our community and the way that we're doing it,” he added.

Ms. Bonilla was proud to be the honorary patient and take part in this momentous milestone for the health system. She said it is important for everyone to do their part. Though the vaccine is an important step in turning the tide on the pandemic, Ms. Bonilla wants everyone to remain vigilant. "I just want to say, ‘Please wear a mask. Do it for your own safety, for the safety of your family, your co-workers, teachers, and students.’”

Mary Washington Healthcare, in partnership with the Rappahannock Area Health District, is committed to giving vaccines to every person in our community who wants it as the vaccine delivery continues. To date, MWHC has fully vaccinated (receiving both first and second doses) 15,000 people in the Fredericksburg region.

To receive the vaccine, an individual should register with the Virginia Department of Health vaccine at https://vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877.829.4682 to speak to someone directly. If you have previously registered with the Rappahannock Area Health District, your information is automatically transferred to the state registry.
