U.S. News & World Report ranks Mary Washington Hospital among best in D.C., Virginia

Fredericksburg, Va. (August 10, 2026) – Mary Washington Hospital has been named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report and is ranked as a top 10 hospital in both Virginia and Washington, D.C. In addition, Stafford Hospital was rated high-performing in two adult procedures and conditions, including heart arrhythmia and pneumonia.

Mary Washington Hospital is rated high-performing in 14 adult procedures and conditions, including heart arrhythmia, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and stroke.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions; less than half earned recognition in any of those 37 areas of care. To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and patient experience. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.
