Grapes in the Garden is annual beer, food and winetasting event benefitting
Mary Washington Hospice. The fund-raiser features samples of food from
local eateries and fine wines from across the state. This premier event

Power of Pink
Power of Pink is the Regional Cancer Center’s annual 2.2 mile walk
to support the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation Breast Cancer Fund.
Hosted on the first Saturday of October, Power of Pink gets breast cancer
survivors and supporters out in all of their pink gear to fight like a girl.
MWH Foundation Open
On Tuesday, June 2, Mary Washington Hospital Foundation held its 28th golf
tournament at Fawn Lake Country Club and raised $80,000! Professional
Building Maintenance served as Title Sponsor, and all sponsors and donors
experienced a great day of golf and prizes.
2015 Stafford Hospital Foundation Cup
As a result of sponsors and donors, the 2015 Stafford Hospital Foundation
Cup golf tournament raised $205,000 for Stafford Hospital and the community
it serves. The tournament was held at Fredericksburg Country Club on Monday,
Health Fairs in our Community
On Saturday, August 29, 2015, the Mary Washington Healthcare iVolunteer
Council hosted the first MWHC Community Health & Wellness Fair at
the Fick Center on the MWH campus. MWHC iVolunteer Council invited several
non-profit agencies, community organizations and civic clubs to participate
by sharing their mission and resources with the public. Over 50 vendors,
including 11 MWHC service lines/departments, handed out educational materials
and resources to 300+ attendees.
Stafford Hospital 5K Run/Walk
More than 315 runners and walkers came out to support the 2015 Stafford
Hospital 5K Run/Walk, held on the campus of Stafford Hospital on Saturday, April 18!
On Saturday, November 21, the 2015 FXBG BREWHAHA took place at A. Smith
Bowman Distillery. As a result, $70,000 was raised to benefit the Mary
Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center (MWHC RCC).
Battling Cancer 5K
At the age of 17, Kyle Pfohl, wanted to do something in honor of his mother,
Annette Pfohl, a seven-time breast cancer survivor since 2005. Kyle wanted
to raise money for the treatment of cancer patients in the Fredericksburg
community. Through a partnership with Mary Washington Hospital Foundation,
Kyle’s vision was born. The first Battling Cancer 5k Run/Walk was
held on Father’s Day in 2012 and has occurred annually with great
success since then.
Veterans Honored at Life’s End
Did you know that one out of every four Americans who dies is a veteran?
That’s why Mary Washington Hospice’s We Honor Veterans Committee
hosted Veterans Day ceremonies on November 11 at area nursing homes and
assisted living facilities.
Preventing Diabetes with Instruction and Support
Without making lifestyle changes, 15-30 percent of people with prediabetes
will develop type 2 diabetes within five years. The impact of unmanaged
type 2 diabetes is serious with possible complications ranging from vision
problems and blindness to heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or failure
and foot ulcers or amputation.
Assessing Community Health Needs in the Rappahannock Region
The Rappahannock Region Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) was the
result of collaboration between Mary Washington Healthcare and the Healthy
Communities Institute (HCI) to determine health needs in the City of Fredericksburg
and the counties of Caroline, King George, Orange, Prince William, Spotsylvania,
Stafford, and Westmoreland.
Mary Washington Health Alliance Offers Integrated Care
The Mary Washington Health Alliance is a clinically integrated network
that was formed through a joint venture of community providers and Mary
Washington Healthcare. It covers more than 50,000 people in the Rappahannock region.
Rappahannock Health Connect
In 2015 we joined with Allscripts and integrated their FollowMyHealth Patient
Portal. We introduced the new Patient Portal in the Mary Washington Medical
Group practices in February and offered it in Mary Washington Hospital
and Stafford Hospital in June. We added our three Emergency Departments
