Interventional radiology now open at Mary Washington Healthcare

Mary Washington Healthcare hires first interventional radiologist, opens new outpatient clinic

Fredericksburg, Va. (September 30, 2026) – Mary Washington Healthcare is expanding access to advanced, minimally invasive care with the opening of the Mary Washington Interventional Radiology Outpatient Clinic on the Stafford Hospital campus.

The new clinic enhances Mary Washington Healthcare's growing Interventional Radiology program and provides patients throughout the region with outpatient access to specialized procedures that use advanced imaging guidance to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions without traditional surgery.

To expand access to interventional radiology services throughout the region, Peter Shahid, MD, has joined Mary Washington Healthcare as its first interventional radiologist. His expertise will help expand the health system's ability to provide innovative treatment options close to home.

Interventional Radiology uses imaging technologies such as X-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT scans to perform minimally invasive procedures through tiny incisions. These procedures often result in less pain, faster recovery times, a lower risk of complications and shorter hospital stays than conventional surgical approaches.
