Peter Shahid, MD

Peter Shahid, MD, is an interventional radiologist with Mary Washington Interventional Radiology and the first Mary Washington Healthcare physician to serve in this specialty role. He helps expand access to advanced, minimally invasive treatment options for patients throughout the region, offering specialized care designed to reduce pain, shorten recovery times and lower the risk of complications compared with traditional surgery.

Interventional radiology uses imaging technologies such as X-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT scans to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions through tiny incisions instead of traditional surgery. Dr. Shahid provides image-guided treatments for conditions such as uterine fibroids, peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, liver and kidney tumors and chronic pain conditions.

Dr. Shahid completed an integrated interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and an internal medicine internship at Jefferson Health System Einstein Philadelphia Hospital. He earned his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and brings a broad imaging background to the evaluation and treatment of complex conditions.
