Our Thoracic Surgery Program
Mary Washington Hospital boasts a comprehensive thoracic surgery program
that produces many of the best outcomes and surgical successes in the
country. The multidisciplinary thoracic surgery program is comprised of
a team of surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses
dedicated to providing top quality care. The talented team is led by Dr.
J. Timothy Sherwood, the founder of the program and a proud member of
both the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and the Society of Thoracic surgeons.
Dr. Sherwood’s global doctor rating ranked in the 99th percentile
nationwide based on the
Press-Ganey physician survey and he ranks in the top 1% nationwide in patient satisfaction,
as measured by an independent third party survey organization. He and
his team aim to continuously improve the quality of patient care through
steadfast research of effective treatment techniques.
Dr. Sherwood and his team have state-of-the-art operating room facilities,
a top-rated anesthesia service, and a dedicated thoracic patient unit
at their disposal. The Mary Washington Hospital ICU is staffed 24 hours
a day, seven days a week by board-certified pulmonary intensivists. To
this day, the program remains the only general thoracic program in the
region and prides itself on delivering many of the best outcomes in the
country. Learn more about our
