Volunteer Opportunities & Ways to Give

Volunteers are Special People

hospice volunteers

At Mary Washington Hospice we believe being a volunteer is very rewarding. We thank all who choose to give of themselves in this special way. It is an honor and a privilege to be invited into the last months, weeks or days of a person’s life.

Dignity, peace, comfort, love and joy are some of the most important things in life. Our hospice team looks for caring and sensitive volunteers willing to use their special talents, skills and life experiences to offer support to patients and families. We're happy to answer your questions about becoming a volunteer.

Ways to Give

Contribute to Mary Washington Hospice

For more than 25 years, Mary Washington Hospice has been the community leader providing comprehensive, compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their families. Led by a board-certified medical director, certified in hospice and palliative care, Mary Washington Hospice provides skilled nursing, medical social work, spiritual care, nursing aides, trained volunteers, and bereavement counseling to support the patient in a home setting. Mary Washington Hospice serves patients in the community regardless of their age, place of residence, or ability to pay.

Mary Washington Hospice Specialty Programs

Although hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances, community contributions, memorial donations and Foundation gifts make it possible for Mary Washington Hospice to provide services to our community regardless of patient’s ability to pay.

Your contributions directly support our ability to provide specialty programs like:

  • Free community grief counseling to families of Mary Washington Hospice patients
  • Complementary therapy services, including massage, art and music therapy, for patients and families to help reduce anxiety and provide comfort
  • Education and training for associates and volunteers in palliative and end-of-life care for specialties including pediatric hospice

These programs are not funded by insurance or Medicare and are not typically provided by other hospices. However, we are dedicated to providing these programs for our patients and their families as they cope with end-of-life illness and the loss of loved ones.

If you are interested in making a donation to support Mary Washington Hospice, please call the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation at 540.741.1512 or give online, choosing the "Hospice Care" designation.
