Mary Washington Healthcare Offers Specialized Neurological Care for Women

Women’s Neurology Clinic addresses neurological health through pregnancy, menopause and other hormonal milestones.

Fredericksburg, Va. (September 14, 2026) – Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) has launched a Women’s Neurology Clinic to provide specialized care for women whose neurological conditions may be affected by hormonal changes throughout their lives.

Led by Barbara “Bobbie” Decker, MD, MSCE, a neurologist and epilepsy specialist with Mary Washington Neurology, the clinic provides coordinated care for women with conditions such as epilepsy, stroke, migraine and multiple sclerosis. The program offers individualized care through family planning, pregnancy, the postpartum period, perimenopause and menopause.

“Hormonal milestones can have a significant impact on neurological conditions,” said Dr. Decker. “Our goal is to provide proactive counseling and care so women can make informed decisions about their health at every stage of life.”

The clinic provides:

• Preconception and family planning counseling
• Neurological care during pregnancy and postpartum
• Guidance on contraception and medication interactions
• Evaluation and management of neurological symptoms during perimenopause and menopause

The program emphasizes close collaboration among neurologists, OB/GYNs and maternal-fetal medicine specialists to ensure women receive comprehensive care tailored to their needs.

“Women shouldn’t have to navigate their neurological health and reproductive health as two separate issues,” said Dr. Decker. “We want to make sure every member of a patient’s care team is part of the same conversation.”

Specialized women’s neurology services are often available only at large academic medical centers. Through the Women’s Neurology Clinic, MWHC is bringing this coordinated model of care to the Fredericksburg region, expanding access to expert neurological care close to home.
