Celebrating James Wenley: From Stafford Hospital to the National Stage

For the past 18 years, James Wenley has been a dedicated member of the Environmental Services team at Stafford Hospital, helping ensure patients and caregivers have a clean, safe environment in which to deliver and receive care every day. Colleagues know him for his strong work ethic, teamwork, and positive attitude.

This summer, James took those same qualities to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota, representing Virginia in volleyball. After months of training and determination, James and his teammates earned a silver medal on the national stage.

But for James, the experience was about more than the competition. It was an opportunity to meet athletes from across the country, build new friendships, and be part of something bigger.

As a longtime Special Olympics athlete, James understands the value of teamwork both on and off the court. It's a lesson he brings to work every day, supporting colleagues throughout the hospital and serving as a positive example for everyone around him.

"James just brings happiness and positive energy," said Beth Patterson, Perianesthesia Specialty Coordinator at Stafford Hospital. "He works hard and always greets everyone in the morning or whenever he sees you."
