From Transporter to Technologist: David Samimy's Journey

When David Samimy joined Mary Washington Healthcare as a patient transporter seven years ago, he wasn't sure healthcare was the right career for him. What began as a way to learn about the profession soon became a passion for caring for people.

"What really stood out to me was the personal aspect of care," David said. "I realized that I really enjoyed being able to make even a small difference in someone's day."

As he explored career opportunities within the organization, David became interested in radiology. He credits X-ray technologist William Rice for helping spark that interest through his compassion and dedication to patient care.

"No matter what they were dealing with, William always treated them with the same level of respect, empathy and compassion," David said. "Patients would leave X-ray and have nothing but good things to say about him."

With William's encouragement, David completed his associate degree, enrolled in the Mary Washington Hospital School of Radiologic Technology and earlier this year graduated and passed his registry exam. Today, he serves patients as a registered radiologic technologist in CT at Stafford Hospital.

"His encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue radiologic technology and I'm really grateful that he took the time to invest in me," David said.

Now, David strives to provide every patient with the same respect and compassion that inspired his own journey.

"Every patient I see, I try to have the utmost respect and empathy because you never truly know what someone's going through," he said.

For David, healthcare is about more than technology. It's about making a difference in someone's life, one patient at a time.
