Local Grants Support Cancer Resources in Fredericksburg Region

Fredericksburg, VA, (May 15, 2024) – The Lisa Pitts Eley Cancer Foundation has received a $3,500 grant to help aid local individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis. This grant was awarded from Mary Washington Hospital Foundation’s Joe and Mary Wilson Community Benefit Fund and from the Stafford Hospital Community Benefit Fund. This, along with other grants and fundraising, allow the Lisa Pitts Eley Cancer Foundation to offer a range of supportive services to patients and their families, including financial aid for bills, housing costs, transportation expenses, and even gifts during the holiday season.

Chuck Eley established the Foundation in 2016, just two years after losing his wife, Lisa, to cancer. Inspired by an act of kindness shown to his family during their time of need, Chuck decided to pay it forward and create a support system for others facing similar challenges. The Lisa Pitts Eley Cancer Foundation has since become a beacon of hope for cancer patients and their loved ones.

Mr. Eley expressed his gratitude for the support received and his commitment to helping others. "I knew I had to do something to help bring me out of the dark and pay forward what help my family had received," said Eley. "Originally, I was going to only assist one family and never dreamed it would grow and become what it has to this day. For that, I am forever grateful!"

“We are delighted to support the Lisa Pitts Eley Cancer Foundation in providing vital assistance to individuals and families affected by cancer,” says Xavier Richardson, MWHC Chief Development Officer and President of Mary Washington and Stafford Hospital Foundations. “Through Foundation funds, we are able to make a positive impact in a variety of ways, to improve the health of the communities we serve."
