Christopher Newman, MD, MBA, Named as Chief Medical Officer to Know by Becker’s Hospital Review

Fredericksburg, VA (December 26, 2024) - Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) is excited to share that Christopher Newman, MD, MBA, Chief Executive Officer Elect, is one of 180+ “hospital and health system chief medical officers to know” by Becker’s Hospital Review for 2025. This is Dr. Newman’s third time earning this recognition.

Dr. Newman is currently responsible for the operational oversight of two acute care hospitals, four emergency departments and an employed medical group with over 20 specialties. He has served as the health system’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer for the past five years and on March 1, 2025, will assume the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when current President and CEO Mike McDermott, MD, MBA, moves to California to lead Montage Health.
