Neurology

Thank you for your interest in the Mary Washington Healthcare Neurology Residency Program. We built this program with intention. Fredericksburg is a growing, medically underserved community midway between two major metropolitan areas, with a patient population that needs well-trained neurologists and a health system genuinely committed to developing them.

Our residents receive broad, hands-on training across the full spectrum of neurology, including stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, movement disorders, headache, and neurocritical care. Training takes place at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital, with additional outpatient subspecialty experiences and strong collaboration across disciplines. We focus on building a solid foundation in diagnosing and managing complex neurologic conditions while giving residents exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care.

We focus on who you become as a physician, not just what you learn along the way. Your training is intentionally individualized, shaped around your unique career goals and professional interests, because we value you as an individual. Mentorship is personalized to ensure you have the guidance and support needed to pursue your specific path. We train neurologists who think critically, stay engaged with evolving literature, and lead meaningful change in clinical practice. Just as importantly, resident wellness is a priority, because we believe a supportive, thoughtful training environment is essential to both your growth and your well-being.

Fredericksburg is also a wonderful place to live, with the feel of a close-knit community and easy access to Washington, DC, and Richmond, along with a quality of life that’s often hard to find in larger city training programs. We look forward to meeting you!
