The MWH PCCM Fellowship is a three-year, 39-block program. The curriculum is weighted toward critical care in Years 1 and 2, with progressive pulmonary subspecialty depth in Year 3. Continuity clinic runs every week across all three years — one half-day per session — ensuring longitudinal patient relationships and outpatient pulmonary competency alongside intensive care training.

Year by Year

PGY-4 Foundations in Critical Care

Five MICU blocks establish procedural competency and clinical judgment. Pulmonary consults with early supervised bronchoscopy from Block 2. First IP block, PFT/Clinic, protected scholarly time.

PGY-5 Senior Coverage & Subspecialty Depth

Senior MICU and SICU blocks. Second IP block — fellows transition to primary operator. Pulmonary HTN service, Sleep Medicine, M&M Conference presentations required.

PGY-6 Practice Readiness & Mastery

Near-attending MICU and SICU. CCU/CICU, Pulmonary HTN, third IP block as primary operator on all advanced procedures. Mock oral boards ×2. Scholarly milestone deadlines.

Graduation Requirements

  • One peer-reviewed manuscript submitted
  • One QI project presented to Quality Committee
  • Grand rounds lecture as primary presenter
  • Inquiring Minds Conference presentation (PGY-4, PGY-5)
  • Journal Club leadership (PGY-4, PGY-5)
  • Mock oral board examinations ×2 in PGY-6
