The team at Mary Washington Weight Loss Center will work with you to help you understand core behaviors and ways of thinking that may interfere with successful weight loss. We will provide you with the tools and skills to get moving safely, find activities you enjoy and teach you strategies to help improve your diet for maximum nutrition, so you look and feel your best.

Meet our Team

Denis J. Halmi, MD, FACS

Bariatric Surgeon

Medical Director

Denis J. Halmi, MD, FACS, is a specialist in weight loss surgery and medical weight loss and serves as the Medical Director for the Surgical Weight Loss program at Mary Washington Healthcare. He has helped thousands of successful patients reach their weight loss goals and regain their health.

Dr. Halmi has more than 20 years of experience with the surgical treatment of morbid obesity and has performed more than 3,500 weight loss operations gaining special expertise in complex minimally invasive revisional weight loss surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity.

Masoud Rezvani, MD, FACS

Bariatric Surgeon

Masoud Rezvani, MD, FACS, earned his medical degree at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran, Iran. He completed his residency training program in General Surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA. Following his residency, Dr. Rezvani completed a dedicated specialized fellowship in minimally invasive weight loss surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital where he gained expertise and experience in advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery and surgical endoscopy. His training also included robotic surgery utilizing the DaVinci System to perform weight loss surgery.

Dr. Rezvani has received numerous awards for his work as a surgeon and he had several scientific articles published in the most respected professional publications including the official journal of The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Most of my career has been spent in PACU and administrative positions. For the past four years I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with bariatric patients. The WLC is a brand-new facility devoted to caring for bariatric patients with the expertise, understanding and kindness they deserve. Managing the WLC and caring for this unique patient population has been the most exciting and rewarding experience of my career.

Leana Gerseny, MS, CWLC, Behavioral Wellness Coach

Bariatric Behavioral Health Specialist

Leana has a master's degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology and has top certifications as a Certified Exercise Physiologist, Lifestyle Coach, and Group Fitness Instructor. With over 11 years’ experience in the wellness industry, Leana has previously served as the Employee Wellness Coordinator for a top 50 hospital in the U.S and has also worked as a Fitness Specialist for NASA, Johns Hopkins and two regional hospitals.

Leana’s passion is helping others along their wellness journey and understanding the needs of her clients. Her vision for the Weight Loss Center is to create long lasting results for anyone willing and ready to make a long-lasting change and to help clients gain confidence and quality of life back.

Leana is a Fredericksburg local & is married to the University of Mary Washington's Women's Soccer Coach (Go Eagles!) and enjoys time outside, home DIY, and playing with her two kids Brooks & Adalynn.

I received my bachelor’s degree in Movement Exercise Science and Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition science.

I have been a dietitian for over 13 years. I love being a dietitian and I thrive to make a difference in people’s life.

I get excited to see when my patients make lifestyle change; and improve their health, their appearance, and enjoy their life to the fullest.
