Volunteer Opportunities & Ways to Give

Volunteers are Special People

hospice volunteers

At Mary Washington Hospice, we hold volunteers in high regard. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who choose to contribute in this meaningful way. Being invited into the final months, weeks, or days of a person's life is both an honor and a privilege.

Dignity, peace, comfort, love, and joy are among life's most precious elements. Our hospice team seeks caring and empathetic volunteers who are willing to share their unique talents, skills, and life experiences to provide support to patients and families. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, we're here to answer your questions.

Ways to Contribute

Support to Mary Washington Hospice

For over 25 years, Mary Washington Hospice has been a leading provider of comprehensive and compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their families. Under the guidance of a board-certified medical director with hospice and palliative care certification, Mary Washington Hospice delivers skilled nursing, medical social work, spiritual care, nursing aides, trained volunteers, and bereavement counseling to assist patients in a home setting. Our services are available to community members regardless of age, place of residence, or financial means.

Specialty Programs at Mary Washington Hospice

Although hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances, the generous contributions of our community, memorial donations, and Foundation gifts enable Mary Washington Hospice to extend services to all, regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

Your contributions directly support our ability to provide specialized programs, such as:

  • Free community grief counseling for the families of Mary Washington Hospice patients.
  • Complementary therapy services, including massage and music therapy, to reduce anxiety and offer comfort to patients and families.
  • Education and training for our staff and volunteers in palliative and end-of-life care, including specialized pediatric hospice care.

These programs are not funded by insurance or Medicare and are not typically offered by other hospices. However, we are committed to providing these programs to our patients and their families as they navigate end-of-life illness and the loss of loved ones.

If you are interested in making a donation to support Mary Washington Hospice, please call the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation at 540.741.1512 or give online, choosing the "Hospice Care" designation.
