Shawn Akram, DO

Shawn Akram, DO

Shawn Akram, DO, went to medical school at Kansas City University but grew up in Northern Virginia and completed his undergraduate studies at UVA in Charlottesville. He is really looking forward to returning home to Virginia and practicing medicine in this community.

In the future he'd love to serve the state of Virginia practicing general anesthesiology. Outside the hospital, he loves playing golf, a sport he's enjoyed for over 16 years, cheering on DC sports teams, exploring local coffee shops and restaurants (he's open to recommendations!), and traveling whenever he gets the chance.

Andrés “Mauricio” Burbano, MD

Andrés “Mauricio” Burbano, MD

Andrés Burbano, MD, originally from Cali, Colombia, completed his undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Latin American Studies.

He furthered his studies with a Master of Science in Medical Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Burbano then pursued his medical degree at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine in Edinburg, TX.

In his leisure time, Dr. Burbano enjoys cycling around Fredericksburg and discovering new dining experiences with his wife. Together, they take pleasure in walking their blue-heeler chihuahua mix, Violeta, at dog parks or along trails by the Rappahannock River. They are avid travelers, having explored five countries in the past two years, and relish hiking during their trips. A passionate sports enthusiast, Dr. Burbano fervently supports the Houston Texans and Chelsea FC.

Benjamin Mann, DO

Benjamin Mann, DO, originally from Bristol, TN, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN. He went on to receive a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Brookelyn, scuba diving, and being outdoors.

Rahul Muchintala, MD

Rahul Muchintala, MD

Rahul Muchintala, MD, is originally from New Jersey and is excited to experience life in Virginia. He enjoys exploring new foods, watching sports—especially cheering on the Eagles—and catching up on movies and TV shows. He looks forward to growing as a physician and anesthesiologist while building strong relationships with future peers and mentors.

Nikolas Newton, DO, PA-C

Nikolas Newton, DO, PA-C

Nikolas Newton, DO, is a native of Chatham County, North Carolina. He attended UNC Wilmington in Wilmington, NC, where he completed dual undergraduate degrees in business administration and biology. He began his medical education at Methodist University, in Fayetteville, NC, where he completed his Master of Medical Sciences. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Buies’s Creek, NC.

Before and during medical school, Dr. Newton enjoyed a successful career as a physician assistant, serving multiple rural and underserved communities throughout North Carolina. He looks forward to bringing the same dedication and passion to the many communities served by Mary Washington Healthcare. During his free time, he and his wife, Sarah, enjoy exploring the outdoors with their two dogs, Kenan and Luna.

Arth Sharma, MD

Arth Sharma, MD

Arth Sharma, MD, finds the field of anesthesia especially rewarding for its intersection of patient advocacy, procedures, and applied physiology. Outside of medicine, he is an avid Star Trek fan, enjoys spending time in nature and staying active, and has recently begun learning Japanese.
