January 31, 2018
Fredericksburg, Va. (January 31, 2018) – Due to the high levels of
flu in our community, at Stafford Hospital and Mary Washington Hospital,
MWHC has changed the flu level alert from yellow to red as of January 30, 2018.
Flu Level Alert Red means that we are asking that only spouses, significant
others, parents, or direct caregivers come to the hospital for patient
visits and only two per patient at any one time, in order to reduce the
spread of the virus. Although visitors under the age of 18 are not recommended,
children may be allowed in special circumstances. Anyone with symptoms
of influenza-like illnesses should not visit the hospital and visitors
may be issued masks or other protective clothing if necessary.
Some Mary Washington or Stafford Hospital Associates may be wearing masks
in the hospital or administrative areas. These Associates have opted out
of a flu shot, so for their protection as well as those around them, they
wear the mask as a safeguard.
General guidance for reducing the chance of contracting influenza is to
get a flu shot and wash hands frequently.
