About this Video

Because of her family history of breast cancer, Tara Norbeck was diligent about regular mammograms

Because of her family history of breast cancer, Tara Norbeck was diligent about regular mammograms. But when a baseline breast MRI raised suspicion, Tara realized being proactive was no guarantee of good health. Further tests confirmed she had breast cancer.
“Before my diagnosis, I went from thing to thing, not stopping to smell the roses,” Tara says. “When you’re faced with a diagnosis like that, you know tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.”
Tara’s surgeon, Kay Blanchard, MD, PhD, FACS, performed a lumpectomy with a sentinel biopsy. Radiation followed, and then the good news: Tara was a survivor.
“I am living proof that you’re not going to get better care than Mary Washington Healthcare,” she says.
