Anne W. Wagstaff, MD

Dr. Wagstaff grew up in Birmingham, AL, and then traveled to Rhodes College, Memphis, TN, where she majored in physics due to her love of math and science. In Memphis she worked for a nonprofit primary care clinic for uninsured Memphians, which confirmed her desire to pursue medical school and a career in primary care.

She then returned to Birmingham for medical school and then residency at UAB. There she participated in the primary care, health disparities, and women’s health tracks to better prepare for outpatient practice. During her time in residency, she found that she loved medical education. She participated in the medical education track and did a dedicated month of course work. She was then selected to serve as a chief medical resident where she was able to gain experience in teaching and program leadership.

When she moved to Fredericksburg, she was excited to learn of Mary Washington Healthcare’s residency programs and their vision to train physicians. Dr. Wagstaff now serves as the clinic director for the internal medicine program, and it has been a joy for her to work alongside the residents providing primary care services for the community. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, experiencing new cuisine, traveling with old friends, and being outdoors.
