Didactics and Educational Resources
Our didactic curriculum is built to complement your clinical training with evidence-based, interactive learning woven into every week. Conferences are held four days a week, and protected Academic Half Days ensure that education never gets crowded out by service demands.
Academic half days
Tuesday (Clinic Block): Residents in their ambulatory weeks have a dedicated afternoon for case-based outpatient education, simulation, and POCUS training.
Wednesday (All Residents): Every Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m., the full program comes together for structured educational sessions following the ABIM blueprint. Topics are presented by attending faculty and guest speakers in an interactive, team-based format and cover organ-specific disease processes, EKG review, visual diagnosis, board review, high-value care, healthcare disparities, and wellness. All residents attend except those on MICU and night float.
Simulation and Point-of-Care Ultrasound
POCUS training is a core part of our curriculum, not an elective add-on. Our program follows the Montefiore-10 curriculum, giving residents structured, progressive training in both diagnostic and procedural ultrasound skills, including:
- Paracentesis, thoracentesis, and lumbar puncture under ultrasound guidance
- Peripheral venous and arterial catheterization
- Ultrasound-guided central venous catheter placement
- Cardiopulmonary diagnostic ultrasound
- DVT diagnosis
- Anatomical ultrasound of solid organs
Residents complete a dedicated two-hour simulation and ultrasound half day each Tuesday afternoon during their clinic block. By the end of PGY-3, residents will have extensive hands-on bedside ultrasound experience alongside advanced code and complex patient simulation training.
Resident-led didactics
Residents are teachers, not just learners. At all PGY levels, residents present at Journal Club, lead case conferences, and contribute to our Morbidity, Mortality, and Improvement (MMI) Conference, all with faculty support and mentorship.

Educational Resources:
The program offers residents a $1,000 dollar a year academic stipend to use on various items such as Step 3 exam, conference attendance, scholarly activity, additional educational material, and board review courses. Additionally, the program provides access to MKSAP, UpToDate, DynaMed, AMA modules, Hopkins Ambulatory Modules, Med Challenger Question bank, Access Medicine medical textbooks including Harrison’s Guide to Internal Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine Journal Watch, and multiple other peer reviewed journals. The program provides a yearly resident membership into the American College of Physicians.
