The Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at Mary Washington Healthcare will provide fellows with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental and advanced concepts in gastroenterology and hepatology. These conferences are designed to align with ACGME core competencies and prepare fellows for independent practice and board certification.
Each week, fellows attend didactic lectures, case-based discussions, and interactive sessions which are led by faculty, experts, visiting professors, and multidisciplinary teams.
Our core curriculum is structured to cover the breadth of gastroenterology and hepatology, with topics organized into modules that rotate over a 3-year cycle. Key areas will include:
Fellows will engage with essential learning materials, including textbooks, journal articles, and case studies. The curriculum is continually updated to reflect the latest advances in the field and ensure that fellows are exposed to the most current evidence and best practices.
To stay current with the rapidly evolving field of gastroenterology, fellows participate in monthly journal clubs where they will present and critically analyze recent research articles relevant to gastroenterology. Journal clubs promote active discussion and enhance fellows’ skills in evidence-based medicine and clinical research.
To support fellows in their preparation for board certification, the fellowship program offers structured board review sessions throughout the fellowship. These sessions focus on high-yield topics and clinical scenarios that are essential for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Gastroenterology certification exams. Fellows participate in mock exams, Q&A sessions, and review workshops to ensure they are fully prepared for the board certification process.
Fellows are actively involved in grand rounds, providing them with a broader perspective on patient care and fostering interdisciplinary learning.
Fellows will also have access to advanced simulation training in gastroenterology procedures and diagnostic techniques.
