Didactics

The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Mary Washington Healthcare provides a comprehensive and rigorous didactic curriculum designed to enhance fellows' clinical knowledge, academic growth, and understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology. Our structured educational activities aim to foster a deep understanding of the complexities of cardiovascular disease, preparing fellows to be leaders in both clinical practice and research.

Weekly Didactic Lectures

Each week, fellows attend formal didactic lectures covering a wide range of topics in cardiovascular medicine. These lectures are delivered by our expert faculty members and invited speakers, ensuring exposure to the latest evidence-based practices and emerging trends in cardiology.

Cardiology Core Curriculum

Our core curriculum is structured to provide a solid foundation in cardiovascular physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, with a particular focus on the clinical application of this knowledge. Fellows will engage with essential learning materials, including textbooks, journal articles, and case studies. The curriculum is continually updated to reflect the latest advances in the field and ensure that fellows are exposed to the most current evidence and best practices.

Journal Clubs

To stay current with the rapidly evolving field of cardiovascular medicine, fellows participate in monthly journal clubs. These sessions offer fellows the chance to critically analyze and discuss key articles from high-impact cardiovascular journals. Fellows will learn how to assess the quality of research studies, interpret data, and incorporate new evidence into clinical practice. Journal clubs promote active discussion and enhance fellows’ skills in evidence-based medicine and clinical research.

Board Review and Exam Preparation

To support fellows in their preparation for board certification, the fellowship program offers structured board review sessions throughout the fellowship. These sessions focus on high-yield topics and clinical scenarios that are essential for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Cardiovascular Disease certification exams. Fellows participate in mock exams, Q&A sessions, and review workshops to ensure they are fully prepared for the board certification process.

Grand Rounds and Learning Opportunities

Fellows are actively involved in grand rounds and seminars hosted by other departments, providing them with a broader perspective on patient care and fostering interdisciplinary learning.

Simulation and Hands-On Training

Fellows will also have access to advanced simulation training in cardiovascular procedures and diagnostic techniques.
