Light Up a Life FAQ

What is the cost of one luminary?

Each luminary is $25. (There are additional sponsorship opportunities available.)

To purchase a luminary, please visit our Light Up a Life event page. Luminaries must be purchased by November 3 to ensure your loved ones’ name(s) are read at the event.

What does my donation support?

For every luminary purchased, a light will shine in honor of your loved one at the event and the name of your loved one will be displayed digitally at Mary Washington Healthcare, Mary Washington Hospital, and Stafford Hospital. Additionally, your donation will assist our Hospice and Grief Support Services team in providing expressive therapies for patients and their families and complimentary grief support to the community.

Garden

Where will the illumination take place?

We are excited to host this year’s illumination on Mary Washington’s campus for the first time! The illumination will be held in the Meditation Garden located to the left of Mary Washington Hospital’s main entrance.

There will be a moment of reflection and the names of those honored are read aloud promptly at 6:15 p.m.

Parking will be plentiful. If you would like a map or to receive directions – please email hospiceinfo@mwhc.com.

What if the person I want to honor did not receive Mary Washington Hospice services or lived outside of our community?

This event is NOT LIMITED to former Mary Washington Hospice families and patients in this community. We encourage ANYONE to purchase a luminary, even if the individual(s) they are honoring did not live in Fredericksburg.

How can I help?

Purchase a luminary for someone else’s loved one and invite them to attend the event. Let them know that you, too, are thinking about and missing their loved one.m.

Support our complimentary grief support programming by purchasing a Lightning Bug Sponsorship. You will receive a luminary, and the majority of your donation will provide complimentary grief support to grieving individuals, children, and families in our community.
