Mary Washington Hospital recognized as high performing in 14 adult procedures and conditions

Fredericksburg, VA, (July 29, 2025) – Mary Washington Hospital has been named in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals edition as a ‘High Performing’ hospital for diabetes, heart arrhythmia, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pacemaker implantation, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, stroke, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn as part of U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. Overall, Mary Washington Hospital was ranked ninth among hospitals in Virginia and fourth among hospitals in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

U.S. News’ annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their healthcare providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals: Specialty Rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions Ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care. This year, among other methodology refinements, U.S. News added ratings in two new cohorts, heart arrhythmia and pacemaker implantation, to the existing Procedures & Conditions ratings, for a new total of 22 ratings.
