Vinay M. Patel, MD
Dr. Vinay Patel believes every patient deserves to be cared for as if they were family. Board-certified in five specialties—Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Neurocritical Care, and Interventional Pulmonology—he combines medical expertise with genuine compassion for those facing serious illness.
Before joining Mary Washington Healthcare, Dr. Patel practiced at Naples Community Hospital (NCH) in Florida, where he helped expand advanced lung procedures, robotic bronchoscopy, and lung-cancer screening programs. He also helped launch NCH’s Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship programs. His dedication has been recognized as Physician of the Year (2021), Naples Illustrated Top Doctor (2018–2025), and Castle Connolly Top Doctor (2024–2025).
At Mary Washington Pulmonology, Dr. Patel focuses on helping patients breathe easier and live better through minimally invasive treatments and a collaborative, team-based approach to care. His philosophy is simple: listen first, treat with empathy, and provide the highest standard of care.

The office staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Dr Patel was professional , well informed and very personable . Had a great experience and felt at ease about the process . I would highly recommend Dr Patel and his office to all my family and friends.

Dr Patel is a great addition to MWH. Im very impressed by his professionalism in the exam room and he explained to me his plan for my care in an easy to understand manner. I'm very happy and to be his patient. Nurse Hannah was very was patient with me in taking my vitals and going over my medications. Mickey checked me out and made sure I was okay with my next appointment date. Great experience!
