Paul Ware, MD, is the Associate Program Director of the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Mary Washington Healthcare. Dr. Ware received his medical degree and completed his residency training in Anesthesiology from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Additionally, he completed his fellowship training in Pain Management at the Virginia Mason Medical Center. Board certified in Anesthesiology, he has clinical interests in regional anesthesia, point-of-care ultrasound, and obstetric anesthesia.
Dr. Ware is actively involved in medical education, teaching and mentoring residents, with a focus on curriculum development. He has contributed to research in neuraxial anesthesia and acute pain management.
In addition to clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Ware has served on several institutional committees including the MWH Institutional Review Board and Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees. He is currently the chair of the anesthesiology residency’s Clinical Competency Committee. He has served as the chair of anesthesiology at Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals. He was recently the chair of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Advanced Exam committee and currently serves the ABA as an oral examiner.
Outside of work, Dr. Ware lives in Fredericksburg with his wife, Susan. They have two children. He enjoys traveling, swimming, snow skiing, and reading, and is currently serves on his high school and college alumni boards.
