Nora Hassan, MD grew up in Haymarket Virginia on a farm with horses, sheep, cows, and goats! She was always voted "biggest animal lover" in school for as long as she could remember. She always helped on the farm and even assisted sheep deliver their little lambs! This was her first encounter with anything medical. She always thought she would be a vet; however life took her someplace else.

Biology and English Literature/journalism were favorite subjects in school, and she wanted to do something that combined both. Therefore, she did biology as a major in George Mason University and minored in Communications. She loved taking journalism classes and found a love of interviewing people. So, why not incorporate journalism and biology and voila, you've got a physician! That way, she got to spend her days interviewing patients from all parts of the world and learning all about them and their health, without having to travel.

She attended Ross University School of Medicine and met her loving husband (who was a major city boy). Somehow this country girl ended up in Queens, NY for her medical school rotations and ended up doing her residency in beautiful upstate New York at St. Joseph's Family Medicine Residency Program. There, she fell in love with a new found hobby of hiking. She convinced her husband to move to her home of northern Virginia where she decided to join Mary Washington Primary Care.

She felt like Mary Washington Healthcare incorporated the most important aspects of family medicine, which is to be at the front line of patients' health, all while also understanding and caring for other aspects of their life. She has a passion for women's health, diabetes, and pediatrics since she is able to see patients from all ages. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, dancing, reading, and hiking.
