Michael A. Callander, MD

Dr. Michael Callander is a board‑certified general and trauma surgeon with advanced training in surgical critical care. He cares for patients across Fredericksburg and the surrounding communities at Mary Washington General Surgery, and he also helps train the next generation of surgeons as faculty in the General Surgery Residency Program. 

Dr. Callander treats a wide range of surgical needs—from emergency and trauma care to complex inpatient management—always with a calm, team‑based approach focused on safety and clear communication. He previously served as Associate Trauma Medical Director at a Level II trauma center in Florida, leading quality improvement efforts and supporting round‑the‑clock trauma coverage. 

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
