Hiwot Mengiste, MD

Hiwot Mengiste, MD, is a board-certified physician in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Howard University Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where she served as Chief Fellow for two years.

Dr. Mengiste cares for patients with a wide range of respiratory and critical illnesses, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sarcoidosis. She is experienced in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), transbronchial and endobronchial biopsies, thoracentesis, and other pleural procedures.

She is an active member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians and is committed to ongoing professional development and staying current with emerging research and innovations in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
