Anita Akhtar, MD is a dedicated and board-certified rheumatologist and internist who brings over a decade of clinical experience to her patients. With a strong foundation in internal medicine and specialized training in rheumatology, Dr. Akhtar is passionate about delivering personalized, evidence-based care to individuals living with autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions.
She earned her medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Harlem Hospital in New York City, where she developed a deep commitment to patient-centered care in diverse communities. Dr. Akhtar further honed her expertise during her Rheumatology Fellowship at West Virginia University, where she trained in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, including musculoskeletal ultrasound (USSONAR certified).
Dr. Akhtar is known for her thoughtful approach, clear communication, and dedication to improving her patients’ quality of life. Her previous leadership roles include serving as Medical Staff President at O'Connor Hospital and Regional Medical Director at Bassett Healthcare Network, as well as an Assistant Professorship at Columbia University, reflecting her commitment to both clinical excellence and medical education.
