Mary Washington Hospital Anticoagulation Clinic

About This Location

The Mary Washington Healthcare Anticoagulation Clinic is staffed by clinical pharmacists who use the point-of-care method. Patients no longer get needle sticks in the arm and there is no waiting for results or dosage changes.

Patients are scheduled for INR/PT checks on a weekly to six-week rotation. The clinical pharmacists determine a patient’s Coumadin® (warfarin) therapy based on the patient’s interview and INR/PT result. The interview focuses on medication changes, illness, diet and other factor influencing warfarin therapy. We also encourage patients to call us with changes in health, diet, and/or medications, allowing clinic staff to care for the patient and their warfarin therapy. The benefit for the physician is the elimination of time-consuming office management of patients on warfarin therapy. Mary Washington Healthcare has been a leader in anticoagulation therapy since 1996.

Physicians interested in referring to the Anticoagulation Clinic may call us at 540.741.1108.
