Rod Flynn, MD,FACS

Mary Washington Healthcare would like to welcome Dr. Rod Flynn back to the community! Dr. Flynn served in this community, at MWHC, from 2006–2012 as a surgical oncologist. Dr. Flynn is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, and has been a surgical oncologist since 2004.

Dr. Flynn has experience in treating patients with various abdominal cancers, as well as breast cancer and cancers of the skin and soft tissues. Since his time with us, he has worked for several comprehensive, community-based, cancer centers and has gained additional insights into improving patient experience and care within a multidisciplinary, comprehensive team.

His goal has always been to apply his expertise to patients in the local community so they don’t have to travel outside to receive the same level of care. He is therefore honored and thrilled to be back in the community which gave him his start. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Flynn is looking forward to serving on the MWHC educational leadership team and contributing to the education of our community’s future physicians.

Faith plays a large role in his approach to patient care, and he believes that his role is to serve God through serving his patients. He has always prayed for his patients, and loves to pray with patients and family members at visits and before procedures, if they desire.

"Dr. Flynn is one of the best doctors I have seen in a long while. He listened to me answering all my questions and my family's questions. He explained everything that was going to happen and made sure we understood him. He also had one thing that most doctors don't have and that is a sense of humor. I understand he is dealing with people who have cancer but he did not bring us down. He had a very good bedside manner. From the hour I was with him he seem to understand what I needed as his patient."
"I felt very comfortable with Dr. Flynn."
