Light up a Life Event Raises More Than $30,000 in Support of Hospice, Palliative and Grief Support Services

Luminaries filled the courtyard at The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Centre as Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) Hospice Services held its inaugural event, Light up a Life Illumination, an evening of light and love on November 8, 2018.

Over 400 luminaries were purchased by families and friends to honor and remember loved ones in a touching and beautiful display supporting MWHC Hospice Services. The event’s title sponsor was the Fredericksburg Amateur in memory of Julie Hurst.

“We were thrilled with the response to our first Illumination and remembrance event, and appreciate the donations and support from event sponsors and community members. The families and friends attending the illumination were appreciative of the opportunity to honor their loved ones and the event itself was a huge success”, said Ashland Evans, Manager, MWHC Hospice, Palliative & Grief Support Services.

Proceeds from the event benefit MWHC Hospice, Palliative & Grief Support Services with a portion supporting the community volunteer program within the Mary Washington Hospice Auxiliary. MWHC Hospice Services is dedicated to helping people live comfortably with dignity, allowing patients and families to have more meaningful days together. MWHC’s Palliative Care program serves patients and their families who are faced with serious illnesses that require pain management and symptom control often related to cancer, cardiovascular issues or other complex, chronic conditions.

MWHC Grief Support Services’ mission is to nurture individuals and families along their grief journey as they cope with the death of a loved one. All programs are provided at no cost to the participant. Their services are available at no charge to individuals and families in the community and are funded by the community through private donations, fundraising events and grants.

You can visit the MWHC Hospice Services Light up a Life kiosk in the Spotsylvania Towne Centre throughout the month of November to view the names of those honored and remembered along with a list of the generous event sponsors.

Tribute gifts are accepted throughout the year. Please visit the MWHC Hospice website or call 540.741.3580 for more information.
