Your Hospice Services Care Team
The Mary Washington Healthcare Hospice Services Team incorporates many
clinical and non-clinical professionals that are dedicated to making you
and your family’s hospice experience the best it can be. Under the
guidance of our physician medical director, the teams regularly communicate
about the needs and concerns of the patient and family.
Our Medical Director, William Anderson, MD, HMD is one of only 3% of medical
directors in the nation board certified in hospice care. He works with
the patient’s primary care physician and oversees medical hospice
care of all patients.
Team members include:
Skilled Nurses: Our nurses see patients regularly, provide medications, monitor activity,
and serve as liaison to physicians.
Hospice Medical Social Workers: Hospice Medical Social Workers provide personalized support to patients
and their families by helping them manage mental, emotional, and social
challenges of illness. This specialized help includes preparing patients,
families, and caregivers with current and/or anticipated needs as well
as logistics to assist with managing the patient’s available resources.
Certified Nursing Assistants: Our hospice aides provide patients assistance with activities of daily living.
Spiritual & Grief Counselors: We have professional counselors and/or clergy available as needed for
patient and family support.
Massage and Expressive Therapists: Our music, art and massage therapists work with patients and families
to help manage stress and anxiety.
Dietitians and Therapists: Our dietitians help to develop meal plans and feeding schedules for patients
while our therapists help patients manage their condition.
