School of Radiologic Technology

Registered radiologic technologists (RTs), also known as radiographers, are medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. RTs practice in hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, physicians’ offices, and in many clinical specialties, from prenatal care to orthopedics. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety and patient care.

RTs may practice general radiography or specialize in an imaging modality such as bone densitometry, cardiac or vascular interventional radiography, computed tomography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, or sonography. Wages of radiologic technologists are competitive with other health professionals who have similar educational backgrounds.

The MWH School of Radiologic Technology is a certificate program that is five terms in length (21 months) and combines classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience with increasing emphasis as the student progresses through the program.

Students successfully completing the program are eligible to apply for admission to take the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Successful completion of the ARRT examination provides certification to practice as a registered radiographer.
