Stafford Hospital Designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive
Stafford Hospital gained designation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally
Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG). Stafford Hospital’s GYN Surgery program,
under the medical directorship of Kurian Thott, MD, has demonstrated excellence
in minimally invasive GYN surgery. The COEMIG program ensures that the
safest, highest quality of care is delivered to minimally invasive gynecology
surgery patients worldwide. At the time of designation, Stafford Hospital
was one of only five Virginia hospitals designated a COEMIG facility by
the AAGL Surgical Review Board.
Dr. Thott, a local OB/GYN with advanced training and expertise in minimally
invasive laparoscopic procedures, led Stafford Hospital through the designation
process. COEMIG’s objective requirements and evaluation processes
were developed in conjunction with leading minimally invasive GYN surgeons.

Peter VanDerMeid, MD, CWS, Leads New Wound Healing Center
Peter Vandermeid Peter VanDerMeid, MD, CWS, is medical director of the
Woodbridge Wound Healing Center, an external department of Stafford Hospital
that offers physician-guided, individualized treatment plans for patients
with chronic wounds resulting from diabetic ulcers, radiation therapy,
and other diseases. The use of leading-edge treatments, including hyperbaric
oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapies, bioengineered tissues, and
biosynthetics, help patients heal faster and more completely. Dr. VanDerMeid
is one of few physicians in the Commonwealth of Virginia board certified
in wound care.
MWH Celebrates 20 Years of Cardiac Surgery
In early 1994, with much support from community members and local organizations,
Mary Washington Hospital received permission from the Northwestern Virginia
Health Services Agency to perform open-heart surgery at its newly built
hospital site. That November, the first heart surgery candidate placed

Kaiser Permanente Partners with Stafford Hospital
In February 2014, Stafford Hospital entered into an agreement with Kaiser
Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States to offer Kaiser Permanente members
access to an award-winning hospital for healthcare. This access enabled
patients to receive numerous medical and obstetrical services at the newest
Mary Washington Healthcare hospital. Today, physicians from the Mid-Atlantic
Permanente Medical Group provide round-the-clock obstetrical services
and serve as hospitalists.
