Dr. Alex Sang Ho Na, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery, brings a level of clinical expertise that is unmatched in our region. A board-certified, fellowship trained cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Na specializes in minimally invasive valve surgery, high risk coronary artery bypass surgery, complex aortic surgery, MAZE procedures for atrial fibrillation, mitral valve repairs, and blood conservation cardiac surgery. Dr. Na has performed more than 3,500 procedures involving congenital and acquired adult cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Na’s approach to surgery and patient care has earned him the reputation as an experienced, dedicated, and performance driven surgeon. As the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery, Dr. Na works closely with the hospital to monitor and maintain quality cardiovascular care. Also as a member of the MWHC Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute board, Dr. Na works alongside regional cardiologists and MWHC executives to lay the groundwork for future improvement in cardiovascular patient care.
Dr. Na is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He then completed his general surgery residency at Washington Hospital Center and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Louisville.
