Our Spiritual Care program offers support to hospice patients, their families and facility staff as they come to terms with the meaning of life and its passing.
How does spiritual care work? Spiritual care is more than religious expression. It is also the sense of well-being and connection with life. Each hospice patient has his or her own ideas about spirituality and may need the help of someone professionally trained to offer spiritual and emotional support.
The Spiritual Care team may also assist in contacting the patient's pastor, priest, rabbi or spiritual leader.
Spirituality It is normal for hospice patients to show their spirituality by:
- Settling conflicts
- Expressing their religious beliefs to fit their situation
- Facing feelings of anger
- Learning to live creatively and passionately
When is spiritual care started? Within five days of admission, the Hospice Spiritual Care staff assesses each patient's and family's spiritual needs and resources. If a patient requests specific support, the spiritual services coordinator assigns a spiritual counselor to provide the patient and family with what they need.
