Started in 1998, the Spirit of Women Awards is held annually to honor unsung heroes in communities across the United States. More than 600 women have been recognized and awarded for their efforts. Winners are selected based on the contributions they make to their communities through their work and their service activities. This year, nominees will be recognized in each of the three following categories: young person role model (14-20 years), community hero (21+ years), and healthcare hero (clinical professional). Winners are chosen based on the contribution they have made to the issues the community faces in the areas of work, family, and health and on the impact they have had in their community and on the lives of others.
