EMS & Trauma

EMS professionals are part of a continuum of trauma care, which includes:

  • 9-1-1 dispatch
  • Emergency professionals from ambulance and aeromedical services
  • Associate hospitals
  • Designated trauma centers

The entire system must work together to ensure the best care to every trauma patient.

Trauma Education for EMS Professionals
Mary Washington Hospital Trauma Services offers a variety of educational programs for EMS professionals.“EMS Nights Out” are held on a bi-annual basis, providing innovative trauma topics for EMS professionals seeking more education in the trauma field. These presentations are open to all Commonwealth of Virginia prehospital providers. Registration required. (1.0 Category Hour and Dinner offered)

Silver Building/Moss Clinic Auditorium

Trauma Outreach for EMS
We offer several onsite educational programs for the EMS Community, most with accompanying category hours. All programs can be presented at your own squad buildings or training centers and are free of charge. Topics include (others are also available):

  • Initial assessment and management of trauma patients
  • Critical case reviews
  • Trauma prevention
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Chest and abdominal injuries
  • Orthopaedic injuries
  • Airway management
  • Mechanisms of injury
  • Communication & Collaboration

Program Length: Thirty minutes to 2 hours.
Requirements: A minimum of 10 people present. Small groups are encouraged to invite neighboring EMS agencies.
