Imaging Services

Mary Washington Hospital offers comprehensive imaging services that are accredited by the American College of Radiology.  Our services are available on an inpatient and outpatient basis.  Imaging support is provided to Mary Washington Hospital’s Emergency Department, a Level II Trauma Center and Stroke Center, 24 hours a day/365 days a year. Our Technologists hold various certifications through their respective professional organizations and maintain compliance with continuing education requirements.

Mary Washington Hospital Imaging Services functions as a clinical education site for students of the Mary Washington Healthcare School of Radiologic Technology, Tidewater Community College Ultrasound program, and Germanna Community College Nursing program.

Imaging Services

We perform comprehensive diagnostic imaging studies for adults and children that assist physicians with diagnosis of conditions.  These imaging services are:

  • CT (computerized tomography) scans
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammography
  • Nuclear medicine
  • General diagnostic xray

Interventional Radiology

Mary Washington Hospital offers the latest in advanced interventional radiology procedures, performed by board-certified interventional radiologists.  Many of these procedures have replaced the need for surgery.  Some of the procedures performed in Interventional Radiology include:

  • Venous access (PICC lines, Port-a-cath, Dialysis grafts, etc…)
  • Biopsies
  • Vascular angiography and stent procedures
  • Endovascular Laser Therapy (EVLT)
  • Uterine Artery Emobolization (UAE)
  • Kyphoplasty
  • Endografts
  • Embolizations

* Note: Many simple xray studies do not require an appointment and we gladly welcome walk-ins. We encourage you to call the enterprise scheduling department at the number listed above to determine if an appointment is needed.

Preparing for your imaging procedure:

Many imaging studies require preparation in the form of lab work or bowel preparation. You will be informed of any special instructions at the time of scheduling. We advise that you wear comfortable clothing and leave valuables at home or with a responsible adult. For their safety, we discourage bringing children under the age of twelve with you to your appointment.

To pick up films or CDs:

Please inform the receptionist or Technologist if you would like to take a copy of your imaging study with you. To arrange for image pick up at a later date, please contact our Image Management Department at 540.741.1589. We respectively request 24 hours notice so that we may have sufficient time to prepare your images.
