Chest Pain Observation Clinic

Patients who have chest pain should always seek immediate medical attention.  To assist with identifying and treating the underlying causes of chest pain, Mary Washington Hospital has a dedicated Chest Pain Observation Center. Patients with chest pain who are otherwise stable are often admitted to this outpatient Center from any of Mary Washington Healthcare’s Emergency Departments.

Many times, patients have signs and symptoms that could be heart-related or could be something else.  These include a fast, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, and shortness of breath.  The Chest Pain Observation Center is staffed with skilled nurses, and doctors who evaluate patients and determine the cause of the pain. Once the cause of the pain is known, patients are referred for follow-up care on an outpatient basis, or if the issue is serious, admitted to the hospital for further treatment.

The Chest Pain Observation Center is part of the Virginia Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI), which provides state-of-the art diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions.
